Tired of Tally?

Why I’m asking:

Tally Prime is the go-to accounting software for MSMES in India. My business has also used Tally for accounting. The reason is simple, Tally is the easiest accounting software to use, it is not too costly, all the accountants know how to use it, and it gets all the basics of accounting right.

But I’ve been facing multiple issues with it. Here are some of them:

  • No proper MIS Reports – Tally doesn’t provide high quality MIS Reports. Not only that, the export format for the sales account or other data is also not easy to work with.
  • No consolidation – If you have multiple GSTN, consolidation becomes a hassle.
  • No real time data – Tally cloud is extremely expensive and you have to pay per user. If the management wants real time dashboard on a phone and MacBook, that option is not available.
  • Add-ons are expensive – Tally can be upgraded, but the add-ons are not cheap. Each and every customisation costs money, even for features that seem basic.

The UI/UX and features of Tally seem to be stuck in the past, 20 years behind all the other tools.

What about Odoo or Zoho?

Both Odoo and Zoho have marketed themselves as alternatives to Tally for MSMEs, but they end up getting the basics wrong. I’ll give you 2 simple examples:

  1. We don’t want to make the effective date of the transaction un-editable. How will you pass month-end or year-end adjustments?
  2. If a party is both a customer and a vendor, its debit and credit balances should be eligible for set-off against each other.

These seem like silly mistakes to anyone who knows how accounting works, but the creators of these software did not consult any CA it seems.

What’s the Solution? (other than ranting)

I’m building the solution. A new ERP which is as simple as Tally for getting started, but can also be scaled with more complex features as the business grows.

If you’re also tired of Tally and are looking for a solution, then sign up for the launch of an ERP that’ll change the way businessmen in India look at data of their business.
